.. Similar Texts Linked To Pratical Production ...

1)

Don't Shank, Just Skank (It Doesn't Have To Happen)

This video in particular relates to my chosen topic as it shows the young black males in different perspective, in this case a non stereotypical view of this group of people being involved with crime, however more involved with music that tries promoting the view that knife crime should not be taken out. This therefore links to my chosen topic as it shows black males in a different light. Although this video is a music video, whilst I am looking more into a cinema advert, this can to a certain extent also be shown in a cinema viewing. The convention used that are essential, would be the 3 to 4 minute time consume, as well as the characters of black males being used, as well as the mise en scene, based in a typical South/East London area. Another convention would be that the main company's logo is promoted for at least 3-4 seconds right at the beginning of the video as well as the ending of the video, this therefore attracts the main message and company too what they are trying to promote - in this case "it doesn't have to happen". The video also has a catchy musical soundtrack, which again may attract the audience.

2)

MTV "Cribs" Knife Crime Public Service Announcement

The main reason why I have chosen this text was simply because it reinforces stereotypes linked with teenage black males, that was the main focus within my linked essay writing. This advert focuses on a parody type of Cribs- with the involvement of what will be your home if you carry a knife. The main convention used would be the view that a black teenager was used, which stereotypically refers to what 'type' of people are seen to be involved with knife crime. Another feature that was sued would be the slogan used at the end of the advert - "carry a knife and this could be your home for the next 4 years"- this therefore again leaves the viewers with an engaging message before the advert has finished.

3)

Official MTV Anti Knife Crime Commercial.

This example would be the MAIN example that is linked with what I would like to create. The main reason for this is due to the the fact that my linked production is " a cinema advert, using different methods to attract different audiences, raising different awareness of the dangers of misrepresentation that reflects different approaches of black teenagers". The main link with this specific MTV examples is because the advert shows a gang of young, intimidating, hooded teenagers approaching a specific place ( the place is unknown), the audience therefore react to thinking that they are going to dangerously approach something, whereas in fact they turnout to do a stunt of some kind of dancing. This therefore showed that a stereotype was challenged. The mainfeatures and conventions used were the mise en scene, being in an estate type of area, as well as the props and costumes used, which also seemed very stereotypical.
